This Regulation ensures that users of a connected product or related service in the Union can access, in a timely manner, the data generated by the use of that connected product or related service and that those users can use the data, including by sharing them with third parties of their choice.
Yesterday, the Council of the EU ratified the agreement in trialogue on the proposal for a regulation on harmonised rules on access to and fair use of data (Data Act).
On June 27th, 2023, the three institutions regrouped in trilogues agreed on a deal on the Data Act. Though the final text of the deal will still need to be agreed by linguists and formally endorsed by the EP and by the Council, the content of the Data Act is now known.
With a view to making the EU a leader in our data-driven society, member states’ representatives (Coreper) reached a common position (“negotiating mandate”) allowing the Council to enter negotiations with the European Parliament on the proposed legislation regarding harmonised rules on fair access to and use of data (data act).
Timeline is accelerating on the Data Act and both institutions are quite confident that they are going to strike a deal before the end of the Swedish Presidency which ends on 30 June 2023.
