According to the latest calendar updates of the European Parliament, the Industry Committee of the EP (ITRE) intends to adopt the report from MEP Angelika Niebler on the EU Data Governance Act on 1st July 2021. The deadline for amendments has been set to April 15th with a vote in ITRE scheduled for July 1st and in plenary mid-September. A debate will be held on the issue on April 13th.
Along with MEP Niebler who is the main rapporteur, EP groups have appointed their shadow rapporteurs:
- Miapetra Kumpula-Natri (Finland) for S&D
- Damian Boeselager (Germany) for the Greens
- Dace Melbārde (Latvvia) for ECR
- Elena Lizzi (Italy) for ID
The EU Data Governance Act is an important piece of legislation that has been unveiled by the European Commission at the end of November 2020 and which aims at to strengthen data sharing
mechanisms, to increase the availability of data and thus facilitate the creation of new products and services for the benefit of European consumers and businesses.
FEBIS is working on the issue as it is important for its members, FEBIS and ACCIS are currently preparing a joint paper on the Eu Data Governance Act.
